Quick summary, before the details
Tikwi is an app for scanning purchase receipts, comparing prices across stores, and keeping a shopping list. It's built by an independent team, with no separate legal entity as of this policy. For any question about your data, write to tikwiapps@gmail.com.
When you scan a receipt with the camera (or pick a photo already saved in your gallery), that image is sent directly from your phone to OpenAI to read the products, quantities and prices. Tikwi doesn't store that photo on any server of its own — we don't have one — and no copy remains once it's processed, other than whatever copy you already have in your own gallery if that's where it came from.
When you scan a product's barcode, the reading happens on the device itself. If the product isn't already in your catalog, we look up the name on Open Food Facts (a free, public database) using only the barcode — no other data of yours is sent.
Everything you record in Tikwi (saved receipts, products, prices per store, your shopping list) is stored exclusively in a local database on your device. It never leaves your phone except through your own operating system's backup — see below.
The purchase itself is handled by Apple's App Store. We use RevenueCat to check that your subscription is active and unlock Pro features — they receive the minimum information needed for that (product identifier, subscription status, an anonymous identifier), never your name, card details, or shopping list data.
If you have iCloud backup enabled (iOS), Tikwi's database is included there just like any other app data — that's managed by Apple, under its own policy, not by Tikwi.
Only these providers, and only for what they need to do:
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | Reading a receipt photo | The receipt image, nothing else |
| RevenueCat | Managing the Tikwi Pro subscription | Purchase status, anonymous identifier |
| Open Food Facts | Suggesting a product name from its barcode | The barcode, nothing else |
We don't use advertising networks or third-party analytics or tracking tools. We don't sell data to anyone.
On your device, your data is kept until you delete it (product by product, or receipt by receipt) or uninstall the app. Receipt photos sent to OpenAI are governed by their own retention policy, which we don't control — you can read it at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.
Tikwi is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from children under that age.
If anything changes in how we handle your data, we'll update this same page and the date above. We recommend checking back from time to time.
